About Our Detention Facility
Our detention facility is located next to the Cass County Juvenile Office in Harrisonville, MO. This facility houses delinquent offenders for both Cass and Johnson County as well as certified youth. The juveniles within the facility are allowed phone calls and visits with family, the length of which depends on their behavior while in the facility. Guidelines for visits and phone calls are listed below.

Guidelines for Visitation
Who May Visit
- Visits will be limited to biological parent(s), stepparent(s), adoptive parent(s), guardian(s), or
a designated contact person requested by the Deputy Juvenile Officer of the resident and
approved by the Detention Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent. - Residents will not have more than two authorized visitors unless authorized by the
Detention Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent. You must call to schedule an in-
person visit or video visit within the established visitation schedule. - Separated or divorced parents may have separate visitations but only one per designated
visiting day. - All visitors will be required to produce picture identification.
Regulations
A resident may deny any visitation, in-person or video. Visitation lengths start at fifteen minutes for a Level 1 resident and increase five minutes for each level achieved by the resident, up to thirty minutes for a Level 4 resident.
Detention staff can refuse visitors if they appear to be in an intoxicated condition, wearing inappropriate attire, suspected of concealing contraband or weapons, or other unstable conditions. Visitors are required to leave all personal property in the property lockers located in the lobby.
Visitors are required to empty all pockets. Personal property includes, but not limited to caps, coats, jewelry, cell phones, keys, billfolds, purses, food/drinks or any writing materials. Visitors may be subject to physical search, or search by a metal detector wand. Inside each locker is a magnetic strip with the words “In Use.” If you choose to use a locker, place the magnetic strip on the outside of the locker. When finished, place the magnetic strip back inside the locker for the next visitor.
The Cass County Juvenile Detention Center will not be responsible for any lost, stolen or damaged property. If you do not feel comfortable using the property lockers, you are encouraged to take items to your vehicle. Denial of visitation privileges can result from concerns for the security, safety and order of the facility and safety of all individuals involved. If detention staff asks you to leave the visitation room or they terminate your visit, you are to leave without question. If a visitor refuses to leave upon request, detention staff will contact law enforcement for assistance.

*If the facility is at 10 or more residents we will split into two groups for visits. Group 1 will have
visits on Sunday and Wednesday, and group 2 will have visits on Sunday and Friday.

When May They Call
- Upon admission (initial call) placed direct by facility to authorized person allowing the allotted time by
the Level System. - All future outgoing calls should occur between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on Thursdays or Mondays if needed, and between 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Saturdays. The specific time will depend on which room/area the resident is located. Mondays will only be utilized for calls if the number of residents is at or above 10.
- The residents will be split into two groups. Group 1 will have phone calls on Thursday and Saturday, and group 2 will have phone calls on Monday and Saturday. Parents or guardians will be notified which group their resident is in.
- Phone calls to Attorneys, DJO’s, and Caseworkers are accessible daily, at reasonable times.
- A residents may deny any phone call.
Restrictions
Detention staff place all phone calls and verify the identity of the caller. The Cass County Juvenile Detention Center will incur the cost of the phone calls. Detention staff verifies all callers prior to connection of the call.
Residents earn more or less phone time based on a Level System. All residents start on level two.
A Level 1 resident receives five minutes, a Level 2 resident receives ten minutes, a Level 3 resident receives fifteen minutes, and a Level 4 resident receives twenty minutes.
On authorized phone call days, residents may complete one call to parents or one call each to a parent if they live in different residences splitting the total phone call time.
Phone calls are limited to biological parent(s), stepparent(s), adoptive parent(s), guardian(s), or custodian(s) unless restricted. Other family members will not receive phone call privileges unless approved by the Detention Superintendent. If staff feels either party violated this policy, (resident speaking with someone other than authorized), they have the ability to record the conversation, and the Detention Superintendent could terminate future privileges.
