Education Court
Education Court is a specialized court designed to serve as a diversion program for families with children enrolled in kindergarten through sixth grade who have excessive absences and it is negatively impacting academic performance. The process of Education Court holds parent accountable for ensuring their child attends school, while addressing barriers to school attendance for the family and supporting the child’s education. Education Court is a strengths-based process involving various community partners including local school districts, Children’s Division, law enforcement, community health/mental health providers, and Juvenile Office staff. The program focuses on assessing the need for services and supporting the family as needed. The Education Court team expects the parent(s) to remain accountable. However, if the family fails to cooperate with the program, the Juvenile Officer may pursue formal processes with the court.
